NuLife Furniture, a not-for-profit pre-loved furniture shop in Cardiff Bay, is proudly marking a double celebration after being awarded a £20,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund at it’s 10 year anniversary event.
The milestone event, held at NuLife’s Cardiff Bay showroom on 7th February, brought together members of the community, volunteers and partners to share a decade of achievements and to look forward to future initiatives.
NuLife Furniture began with a mission to provide affordable furniture to individuals and families in need, while promoting environmental sustainability through recycling and upcycling.
NuLife Furniture’s Key Achievements Over the Past Decade:
- Supporting Families: NuLife has assisted over 4,000 households referred to them, ensuring access to essential household items.
- Environmental Impact: NuLife has diverted more than 80,000 items from landfill, contributing to a more sustainable environment.
- Community Engagement: With over 50,000 volunteer hours logged, NuLife has provided valuable skills and opportunities for members of the community.
Alessa Hill, Manager of NuLife said, “Celebrating ten years is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all our volunteers, staff, and supporters. We first opened our doors thanks to a generous National Lottery Community Fund grant, so it is fitting that we round off our ten years with another National Lottery grant. It will make such a difference to the wellbeing of local residents, and the environmental sustainability of the community.
“We’d like to thank all National Lottery players for making this possible. However, we can’t stop there, we constantly strive to get funding, new partnerships and welcome any suggestions of how we can further develop our service.”
Andrew Owen, Head of Funding at The National Lottery Community Fund in Wales, said, “We are delighted to award a £20,000 grant to support individuals in accessing essential furniture for themselves and their families. The exceptional work of the volunteers and staff at Nulife Furniture is truly inspiring, and this funding will help them continue to make a significant difference in the local community in and around Cardiff.”
The National Lottery Community Fund will allow NuLife to employ a Sustainability Officer who will focus on promoting and implementing sustainable practices to reduce waste. This includes increasing recycling, promoting the reuse of materials whilst educating the community about sustainable practices.
Councillor Susan Elsmore. Canton Ward Councillor, said, “I am delighted to join NuLife colleagues in celebrating their tenth anniversary. NuLife has bought hope and practical assistance to hundreds of individuals and families, thus improving lives, tackling furniture poverty, and reducing waste and supporting the circular economy.”
NuLife Furniture extends heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to its journey over the past ten years and looks forward to continued collaboration in building a more sustainable and supportive community.
