To kick off Red Nose Day in Wales, actor Iwan Rheon also known as Ramsay Bolton from Game of Thrones, visited our NuLife Furniture project in Cardiff to see how the Comic Relief funding it receives is making a difference.
This project recycles people’s old furniture and household goods so that they can be provided to vulnerable people on low incomes. Comic Relief funds the project’s white goods servicing centre. Volunteers learn health and safety procedures, function tests and safety tests, improving their confidence and career prospects.
During his visit to the project, Iwan Rheon said, “This is a fantastic project. It’s helping vulnerable people create a life for themselves by learning new skills, and breaking the cycle of poverty that so many find themselves trapped in. It’s so important to get involved with this year’s Red Nose Day to help projects like this keep changing lives here in Wales. Make your laugh matter, and raise as much as you can.”

James, 25, from Newport, has volunteered at NuLife for two years. James said, “I left school at 16 and had a few short-term jobs but nothing stable. I was unemployed for a while and sleeping on friend’s sofas. It was impacting my mental health and I spent a lot of time in and out of hospital. My support worker suggested I come to NuLife. Now I volunteer here every day. I’ve got skills now and it’s given me more confidence. It’s given me a reason to get up in the morning. I don’t know where I’d be without it.”
Comic Relief is calling on the generous people of Wales to once again fundraise and help change lives across the region, UK and Africa. A whole host of comedians and celebrities are supporting this year’s Red Nose Day on Friday 24th March. Red Nose Day will culminate in a night on the BBC as a host of comic favourites from Joe Lycett to French and Saunders, preside over a mammoth night of live comedy, sketches, music moments, fundraising films and more.
