Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths had high praise this week after visiting NuLife Furniture. This lottery funded project was launched in 2015 by Cadwyn Housing Association and aims to provide good quality furniture for an affordable price by upcycling and selling household items.
Operating from their showroom and workshop on Dumballs Road, NuLife has helped over 300 customers to furnish their homes in addition to preventing over ten tonnes of furniture from reaching landfill.
NuLife’s success is owed to the huge contribution made by their team of 15 volunteers who provide over 300 hours of their time each and every week. In return NuLife aims to help them improve their wellbeing and skills, and has so far helped five people to find employment.
Ben Hodge, Project Manager and one of the founders of NuLife said:
We’re looking forward to a challenging year, where we’ll be making sure that our business can become sustainable so that we can keep on building and strengthening communities, preserving the environment and selling affordable furniture.
Lesley Griffiths, Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs said:
I was pleased to visit NuLife Furniture and see the excellent work to reuse furniture and divert it from landfill, whilst at the same time providing affordable furniture to people on low incomes. This is an excellent example of the valuable work the Third Sector undertakes in supporting Wales’ sustainable development goals. It was a pleasure to meet the staff and volunteers who are learning new skills and improving their potential to return to paid work or training.
NuLife Furniture is funded by Big Lottery People and Places Fund and Comic Relief, it is open to the public between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday at Unit 2 Anchor Industrial Estate, Dumballs Road.
